It was a fast and easy emissions test. Even the guy that performed the emissions test had my car facing towards the road.

So, let me just explain the situation and let you decide for yourselves. I called on a Thursday (shortly after a snowstorm, to be fair) and got an appointment for the following Tuesday to look into my '02 Silverado 1500's 4wd. I am a lay mechanic and the paid mechanics I spoke to listened to me, which I appreciated. I dropped the truck off on Monday night without incident. Tuesday, it was determined to be a ground/electrical issue. The new ground wire was not installed until the following day. The new ground wire was run from the ECM to the Transfer Case Control Module and seemed to address the issue successfully. The mechanic cycled the 4wd several times to make sure it was working and after several button mashings, *something* failed. I was told I could pick up the vehicle or leave it there/bring it back for further diagnostics, to address the issue. I was told that their diagnostic equipment was getting no signal from the transfer case control module(which I had just replaced with an OEM salvage part). I was told it could be that, the switch (which I had just replaced with an Amazon knockoff), ) or "something else", which is why the further diagnostic was required. Turns out, it was simply a burned out 20 amp ATC fuse, which I had told the shop had burned out before when trying to engage my 4wd. I replaced the fuse with a spare and my 4wd is working fine now. Now, if it were me, before I pulled the truck out of the shop to park it for a customer to come, I think I would have confirmed the fuse hadn't blown. it takes seconds to look and could ultimately result in a satisfied customer going out the door. For whatever reason, that did not happen. I'm glad my truck is working again, and I appreciate the work they did. The tech ran a good solid ground and did good work with that. But the fact that I drove my vehicle away still in a state of failure when a simple fuse was all that was needed seemed like low hanging fruit to me, and certainly not something warranting another 140/hr for labor or 80/her to diagnose. Would I still take a vehicle here? Probably, if I needed to. They are certainly more transparent than other places in the area. At the same time, I would recommend prudence, discipline, and caution in figuring some things out yourself, or getting additional opinions to avoid unnecessary repairs costs. That being said, I appreciated Zack(?) and John's help in getting my truck's 4wd going again this winter. It ultimately took 1 1/2 days, $307 in the shop, a simple fuse replaced by myself(not to mention the actuator and encoder motor I had already replaced) and a totally unnecessary purchase of another TCCM to get myself safely travelling with 4wd again. Ultimately, my experience with this shop was average to slightly above average. They were able to get me in while most other shop's were almost a month out for scheduling. Not the best customer service, but the techs themselves were responsive, were willing to listen and behaved and spoke thoughtfully. So I had a decent experience with the people I dealt with but can not vouch for the business as a whole as I've only had this isolated experience with them. I would recommend this business, but with the same caution and caveats as any auto shop. Most auto shops are either decent, or criminal. My experience with this one had been decent so far.
