Had an oil change done on a Hyundai Santa Fe, 3 weeks later a Check Engine Light popped up for a timing issue (not an oil light) and I immediately took it to a dealership, who told me the car had no oil because someone left the oil filter gasket off. I called Matthews with the news, who told me the dealership was lying, that the tech who changed my oil was very experienced and could not make that mistake (assuming the gasket comes already mounted on the filter with these cars which I learned later it does not), and that I should have taken any problems to Matthews first so it's not their problem. The dealership, which had no reason to lie, cited metal shavings from running the engine without oil. 2 non-Matthews oil changes and 7,000 miles later (108,000) the engine seized without warning, for a complete loss. In Matthews' defense this is not unheard of for Hyundais, but I can't imagine allowing it to run without oil did the engine any favors and Matthews simply made bad excuses instead of standing behind their work or even bringing it back in to look at it. I'll never be back of course, but if you do I advise verifying their work and asking for the old parts. And by the way if you have any concerns about your oil, mail it off for testing, $50 is cheaper than a new engine.

Our team thinks you would have seen an oil leak during your travels if the gasket was truly missing from the oil filter. We did communicate with you that we would take care of it if the filter gasket were an issue, but you stated that the dealership already took care of it. Anytime there are concerns/questions about our work, we suggest getting the vehicle back in with us immediately to take care of it. We are glad the dealership was able to take care of it. Matthews in Waupaca are the experts you need to get you vehicle back on the road. The brands they sell are awesome. I was on the road yesterday icy roads in Appleton and all highways. First time experience with my new tires. Not once when applying my brake did my vehicle slide. Thank you Matthews for steering me in the right choice of tires for my car.
