What a bunch of scammers, my female friend was recently quoted $1300 for a 4 wheel brake job on a 2019 X3 with only 32000 miles on it so I took it apart for inspection. I have 40 plus years of auto experience and found that the pads had plenty of life left on them both front and rear (fronts were obviously replaced once already) and replacing rear brakes at 32k without other related problems is almost unheard of. Look elsewhere for service. I stand corrected - $1600 was for a two wheel brake job only Just because someone has a late model car, doesn’t mean they have money. What’s your current shop rate? Perhaps if your salesman/ service writer had passed all of the correct information to the customer it would had added some level of automotive professionalism. what was UNTOLD is that most BMW brake pads have a wear indicator that by design does "activate" around this mileage and a dash light comes on. Still plenty of life left on the pads, this of course is how the dealers make money too. BMW pads @ $147.00 BMW wear indicator (sensor) $47.00 1.5 hours of my time including cleaning of the back side of wheels, done!

Mar 24, 2024Hi Dan. Thanks for the detailed feedback. I went back and reviewed our conversations with Julie. You are 100% correct, atleast on a point or two. It did not “Need” new brakes. She had some time to plan for this repair, and that is what we communicated to her. Even in our documented write-ups, we expressed to her that this is coming up in the future. Never did we push any kind of pressure to do this right now. In fact, the opposite, we do this so that she can know what's going on and plan for her repairs. Also, yes, the DIY (Do it yourself) financial model is way cheaper than our DIFM (Do it for me) model. I think you are missing a few key ingredients to the cost of the repairs. A DIY model's financial rules are very different from a DIFM model. In our DIFM model, we have an abundance of expenses we have to adhere to. Workers comp insurance, garage keepers liability insurance, rent, utilities, marketing fees, paying our team an honest day's wages for an honest day's work, for starters. After all, this is our primary source of putting food on our table. In the DIY model, you have a primary source of income (a career) not related to helping a friend or fixing your own car on the weekend that puts food on your table. I also doubt you have liability or workers comp insurance or have a marketing budget to get your friends to come over so you can do them a favor. I would expect someone with 40 years of experience to know those basic rules. Julie has been in for repairs on her BMW multiple times. She is a valued customer of ours, and my hope is she remains one. I am thankful she has a friend like you to help her out with that brake repair, but calling us a bunch of scammers is a bit of a stretch. Not even Julie, our true customer, has called us that. Really appreciated the honesty and service from the team – also, amazing availability (booked online). The sent me a full break down of my vehicles issues and did a great job talking through what repairs were crucial and which could wait. I’d recommend them for anyone looking for an unbiased/non-dealer opinion.

The team at Silver Lake Auto gave great service. I was able to book an appointment online no problem, and the rep was very kind and straightforward with what was wrong with the vehicle. I love the detailed analysis on each aspect of the vehicle inspection (with photos). Extremely transparent about all services and their pricing. Will keep on using them for servicing our family vehicle.

It’s evident this place takes pride on their customer service, nowadays it’s refreshing to experience that. Dane was professional, friendly and courteous. New to the area and needed tires last fall I found Silver Lake and they did a great job. I just returned to have an oil change and and it was a repeat performance. Customer service goes a long way, I'd like to give a shout to Doug the driver who was top notch!! (GoPackGo) All in all this place is a job well done. Strongly Recommend

These are the greatest most caring guys I work in the same parking lot as them and have run into lots of car trouble and they’ve always been willing to help me at the drop of a hat. Thad helped me replace my windshield wiper during a blizzard free of charge. They also provide a great report whenever you get something fixed.

Silver Lake is my go to shop. They have done major repairs on two of my vehicles. There very thorough, professional and on time. They always keep me aware of my cars status. I highly recomend them. John

They picked my car up on Wednesday and dropped it off the following evening making sure that everything worked properly. So far good! They have a good service and picking up and dropping off your vehicle and they keep you posted on repairs.
