Brought in an older Honda accord with just a couple issues I assumed were minor: fix an inside door handle that had come unlatched and replace a plastic lock cover on the interior door that had broken off. Assumed this would be a simple and easy fix, just didn't have the time to mess with it. I had never been to Doug's, but just trusted the overall positive online reviews. Unfortunately Doug's never quoted me a price, just went ahead and ran a diagnostic ($115) and decided to replace the door lock actuator ($68.99 for the part, $115 for the labor). Ironically this is an older car and none of the other automatic locks work, so given the choice I would have never had them run diagnostics OR replace the door lock actuator. To remove and replace the door lock switch it was another $163.18. By the time all was said and done, the whole ordeal took an entire week and I paid around $500. When I picked the car up only one of the automatic locks was working. I brought this up and was told to add lubrication to get the other locks going. Shocker - that didn't work. Really no huge deal, but why pay hundreds of dollars to fix one door lock motor on an old beat up car if the other three don't work? Logic would say 'just leave it alone.' Had I known what I do now, I would have just kept driving it as it was. Would have been really nice if the crew at Doug's would have thought to involve me in the decision making, or at least given me some other options, before I was stuck with such a high cost for what I thought was going to be a quick and easy fix. I brought all this up with staff, but was told most of their customers just trust them to make these calls. Won't be returning.

Daniel, I’m going to address your issues one at a time that way, the entire experience is known to those that will read this. 1: It would be very rare if you were not made aware that there is a diagnostic charge to figure out your issues. Almost every technician in the US works off flag time, not hourly. If they spend an hour figuring out your issues and the customer wasn’t charged then that means the technician worked for free. If you truly weren’t made aware of a diagnostic fee then I’d be glad to refund the $115. Also, it wasn’t just a “rod” unhooked and a switch “cover”. 2: You authorized the repairs that we made. You were also made aware that this would ONLY fix the drivers lock and you said you were ok with it due to that being the most used door. The other 3 locks DO work, they are just slow because they also need actuators. We NEVER repair a vehicle without customer authorization. 3: Your vehicle was not at my shop for a week. We replaced the actuator and then had to order the switch. You picked up the vehicle and brought it back once the switch was in. That brings me to another point….if you were so disturbed about the price or lack of authorization, why did you bring it back for the second part to be installed? If I felt take advantage of at any place of business, I would not go back a second time within a week for the second part. I don’t like people not knowing the entire story. You WERE involved in the decision making. You could have very easily said “this is an old car and not worth it, I don’t want it fixed.” As you already mentioned, the Google reviews speak for themselves and there are hundreds and hundreds of people that leave happy every month. I’m sorry that, it seems, you had a case of buyers remorse. Again, if you feel you shouldn’t have had to pay the technician to diagnose your car, I’ll gladly refund the $115.

Ended up needing to replace my water pump and got that diagnosed at Meineke, which you may think would be cheaper than a mechanic. They tried charging me an outrageous amount for just that, so I decided to call around to find a mechanic. Doug’s gave me an estimate and was able to get my car in a good time. Right away I could tell these guys were legit. He also found a couple other issues, that meineke wasn’t including in there estimate and he gave me a very good deal to get the water pump and those other issues fixed! He charged a lot less than anyone else and wasn’t trying to screw me over like you see many mechanics do today! Highly recommend!

As a woman who hasn’t invested much time in understanding cars, I appreciated being treated with responsiveness and transparency about prices. I can recommend this repair shop to others who are in similar positions!
