RUN… don’t just walk away from American Imports repair facility on County Line Road in Menomonee Falls, WI which relies on their hope that most drivers today are completely ignorant about the most basic functions of their cars, thereby making it easier to tack on expensive, redundant diagnostics that have already been performed elsewhere Using the exact same diagnostic equipment that American Imports uses. We had noticed that a “check engine light” had recently appeared on our dashboard, and whether you realize it or not, many auto parts stores such as AutoZone will provide a completely free service when they take their OBD II (On Board Diagnostic II code checking device) Out to your car in the parking lot… Spend maybe three minutes downloading the information through a connector directly underneath most cars steering column… Returning into the store and taking two more minutes to print out an explanation about any and all codes that appeared as well as the most likely causes of the code error. It indicated One likely cause… An MAF sensor malfunction. Pretty simple, right? When we called American imports and explained this code diagnostic was already completed and we had a code for them that they could check, and we told them that it was most likely an MAF (Mass airflow) Sensor, and That since this was an electronic part it’s not something that they can Just “visually inspect“ to verify if the part is good or bad because electronics don’t work that way. We just wanted a “rough estimate” on how much that might cost us to HAVE THEM replace it if we brought our business back to them as we have had other simple services performed by them in the past. American imports STEADFASTLY REFUSED to give us a rough, non-binding estimate because as they repeatedly said, “I just wouldn’t feel comfortable giving you a rough estimate because if it turns out that it’s not that part, then you might get mad”. What actually made us mad was that American imports is not a company that is transparent enough to know How much a service like this costs and then be proud of it enough that they would say oh that will probably run you $175 (or whatever because that part with a lifetime guarantee at AutoZone cost $131 And takes no more than 10 minutes to remove the old sensor and install the new ) if that turns out to be the part that needs replacement.Simple, right? Not for American Imports. We then repeatedly pointed out that this was not a request for an “official “ on-paper written form, or even in written form via text or email… It was just a ballpark estimate because like most Americans, we are on a tight budget and we were already getting some other services performed by them and we just wanted to make sure that we had enough money budgeted. Many customers just blindly trust American Imports Because AM.Imp. are very smiley and pleasant when you are in their facility… and they have many positive reviews. But also Note there are multiple UNHAPPY customers displeased with the pure vagueness of what American Imports tries to pass off as their “billing invoice”. For example, we also had a tire rotation performed, and I’ve never had a repair facility that didn’t list what the outgoing tire air pressures were when done… And there was no listing for the tread depth of the tires they rotated. They just rely on generic statements like “pressures were set to manufacturers recommendations” so they feel they can’t legally be held liable if you have a tire blowout based on improperly set pressures because they didn’t state what they ever Set it. Sneaky… Not transparent. I’ve pointed out the problems with their lack of details in the past when I’ve had services performed, and they’ve made no effort to change it. The final straw with American imports lies in the fact that even if we spent $129 for their duplicate diagnostic…American Imports wouldn’t pledge that if theirs turned out to be exactly the same information That AutoZone provided FIR FREE , That they would reduce the diagnostic charge.

Jan 24, 2024Hello Al. Wow, just Wow!. I'm almost speechless after reading this review, but I will say this. This is the second time you have left us a 1 star review. The last time was because we did not respond to your appointment request fast enough, which sparked another multi-paragraph review even though you have, at that point, never been to our establishment. I called you and we worked it out, got you in for service and all seemed good…until this. Your daughter Hannah is the one who set the appointment for an oil change service and tire rotation, and brought the vehicle in for service. She is the only one we communicated with throughout the whole process. She was cordial, polite and did ask about her check engine light being on. We explained the best course of action to address her check engine light, so she would not spend needless money on a guess just based off the code. She had no other questions, declined the testing fee, and it seemed to be a pleasant experience for both of us. I'm not sure what sparked you to leave this 11 paragraph negative review, especially since nobody here even talked to you, but we obviously hit a nerve. I'll just end by saying this. We wish you all the best, and although our business/customer relationship did not work out, I hope you can find an automotive repair facility that fits your needs and are happy with.
