Stay clear of this guy. He initially told me he was skilled enough to do a full restoration on my vintage bike. He did some initial work to get it running, without lights, but it soon was backfiring and stalling out on hills. I paid him over $700 for some initial repairs only to return it to him because it wouldn't start. That was after riding once. I returned the bike to him with a request to do a complete restoration of all the mechanical issues with the bike including the electrical system. He said it would be no problem. It sat in his garage for 6 months before he contacted me to let me know he was ready to work on it. I also provided him with a substantial amount of parts, many of them new, that came with the bike when I purchased it. Included were two brand new rear shocks that were left with him. When I returned the bike to him, he claimed he didn't have them. He finally started to work on the bike in March and called me after several weeks saying, "I have done all I can on your bike, please come a get it." He delivered to my home with an invoice that amounted to a laundry list of things he "repaired" and a bill for over $1300. The bill did not specify the number of hours spent in his itemized list of repairs or his hourly rate. The day he delivered it, it took him 30 minutes to get it running. He made a bunch of excuses about old bikes and cold starts. He also demonstrated the lights which performed poorly, flickering on and off. In the several days that I had the bike after he dropped it off, the lights began to malfunction. I contacted him to let him know and he said I should bring it back to him but he wouldn't commit to repairing the electrical system without further charges even though I had already paid for this repair as documented on the invoice he delivered. When I began to express my concern about this he again made a bunch of excuses and would not commit to fixing the lights without any further charges. One other thing, when he returned the unused spare parts I initially provided to him, he did not return a brand new unused set of front and rear brake shoes. He also did not return the stock handle bars he replaced with a pair of after market handle bars I never approved. I had to specifically ask him where these items were. He played dumb as if he "just forgot to include them." Oh and by the way, I called another bike shop to see about getting my lights working again and shared the nightmare I went through with this guy. When I shared his name, the owner said he had heard of this guy and his bad reputation in the area. Apparently he has a history of saying he can fix things, charges a lot for the repair, and soon after the bike is not working properly. This guy is a dishonorable mechanic, greedy for money, a liar and not really capable of restoring vintage bikes. At least not mine. He should not be trusted.
Got my bike inspected - thorough and efficient. Appreciate the service and will be back.
